Edit my Image - Matt

Post by melbarnes »

Now that the ball is rolling with "edit my image", I thought I'd post another for anyone who wants to have a go at editing. This is Matt, and I'd be interested in seeing the different approaches to editing this photo.

Cheers, Mel.

Here's my attempt Mel. You'll know much of what I'll have done to it as I showed you most of my retouching routines last Sunday night. ;-]

- I took the exposure down by half a stop
- cloned out spots and imperfections, including neck lines
- tidied up the eye whites
- brightened the irises
- added contrast to the eyes
- brought out highlights in his hair and face with a grey-filled layer
- reduced some of the red with a Hue/Sat layer
- added a touch more contrast for a grittier look
- cropped to remove dead space at the top of the frame, but kept the 4:3 aspect ratio

I like the skin tones Paul, and what you've done with the eyes. I'm now working on the Scott Kelby technique for "adding more life to the eyes". Thanks for all your advice - I'm putting it into practice .

Cheers, Mel.
