Re: THE USUAL QUESTION - EVERLEY
Both versions have their own charm and there are no rights and wrongs with it. Having the whole image in shows the clothes as well as that wonderful expression. The only thing I might do is make a version closing in on the face, which is again neither right nor wrong but just different.
I don't think you can go far wrong with this.

Re: THE USUAL QUESTION - EVERLEY
I agree with John - both lovely pictures - however, I prefer the colour. In the BW version, the highlights on the skirt are just edging towards too bright (could be my screen) whereas in the colour, there is, for me better detail. The only other thing is the dark spot top right - door handle or lock? I found it drawing my eye. The colour version also suits the blur vignette making it a very gentle image.
Great shot.

The black and white version works best for me. I really like the mono conversion. Just enough contrast and nice range of tones.
The child looks cute and you've caught a good pose and expression.
However........ I'm hoping you won't mind me saying, that I find the fake blur really quite amateurish and, I think, it spoils the photo. When I look at a photo anything that leaps out at me in a bad way will instantly draw my attention. Here, I found myself looking at the fake blur more than the child. You're a good photographer Mike, and I hope you can look at the image objectively and see what I mean. But, as ever, feel free to disagree.

Re: THE USUAL QUESTION - EVERLEY
Hi again Folks
Listened to your comments and, whilst this is a work in progress, have had a go at changes.
Two colour versions full length and cropped with door catch hopefully absent and mono for Paul without the
frilly bits.
Paul - I could never take offence from your comments my friend. As always they are very valuable to me. I thought that
you must have emigrated or something so at the very least this topic has brought you back to the Forum where you belong.
Thanks for the 'good photographer' which counts for a lot to me.
For what it's worth this was taken at Everley's first Birthday party and her Mum preferred the colour version and the 'soft' effect.
