Pentax K10D/Vivitar 283 flash gun

Post by Tony Lee »

Does anyone know if the Vivitar 283 flash is compatible with my K10D - I have heard it might not be and it might fry the camera.

You need to measure the trigger voltage of the gun with a meter. Mac measured two apparently identical 283 guns a while ago - one measured 20V and the other nearly 300V (not good) so there must have been different versions of the 283.

In many ways you are better using a modern Pentax gun to take advantage of the P-TTL features. The Pentax AF368 sells for around £150.
Best regards

Tony - Wein do a hot shoe mount that has a hot shoe mount on top and a PC socket to wire up to Studio/ off camera flash - this little gizmo reduces the trigger voltage down to less than 6 volts ...
