Re: Pictures for the web
Like Paul I have compared the two pics and can not see a difference.
However if I understand it correctly when you compare the web one in Internet explorer (non colour manged) and the original in photshop, PS will "correct" the image using your monitor ICC.
You could try to open both in IE and see if there is a difference. If there is then the most likely problem is your monitor ICC.
However before you go and alter it remember that it may affect your monitor/ printer relationship.
Hope this helps

Re: Pictures for the web
Correction
If there is NO difference in IE etc. etc.
Andy
I am no expert but I think you have color space and color mode confused.
Color space should be sRGB, Adobe RGB, PhotoRGB, customRGB etc. There is no RGB as far as I can see
From what I have learned sofar the recommendation is to stay in one colour space from camera to monitor (normally sRGB or AdobeRGB) and only change (if needed) on output. This where I screwed up originally
If you shoot RAW the camera setting makes no difference as the colour space is set by your RAW converter. If you shoot RAW + JPEG this where you can end up with the pictures in two different colour spaces. Hope this helps

Re: Pictures for the web
Thanks Paul, Theo.
I could well be mixed up, as I am not sure what is what. What got me thinking about this is the fact that the colour profile on my .psd files was Adobe RGB. I had never looked at this before and I use photoshop (cs3)as it was installed. I have attached a snip from bridge.
Last question Hopefully
will the fact the profile of my .psd is adobe RGB cause me any problem in colour variances or do i need to change it to sRGB. I have not had any problems with colours so far on the net or printing via an online lab
Yours without a clue, Andy

Re: Pictures for the web
That could well be the problem. Change it to sRGB and everything should match.

I do not think you can change this to sRGB. As far as I can see you can only select RGB, LAB, CMYK etc.
The color space is changed by changing the profile.
Andy
Correct me if I am wrong but when you prepare the file for the Printing Lab you probably convert the picture to JPEG and attach their printer profile (for Pro-Am this is fuji_DP2_ProAm.icm) so it matters non what color space your pds files are in. As long as you remember to change to sRGB when preparing for the web. (Remember the BeeGee's song "This is where I came in"
)
It is going to be some night when Gordon Jenkins shows up on January 22nd.

Re: Pictures for the web
Thanks everyone for the comments/help/links etc.
I think it's bizarre that some see the difference and some don't - I definitely have a difference between viewing the downloaded version in Microsoft Preview/Photoshop/Lightroom (all of which are colour managed) when compared to viewing on the internet via IE7/Firefox (not colour managed).
In Microsoft colour management I'm using the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile for the monitor, as is Photoshop/Lightroom and as far as I can tell the JPG image is saved with the sRGB profile. I don't therefore understand why I have a difference, but given some don't see a difference I guess there is something wrong with my set-up. I'll try it on my daughter's basic PC and see what that throws up.
Many thanks again and you've delayed me from throwing the PC out of the Window !!

Andrew,
Just a thought which may not be right, but anyway, if you calibrate your monitor then the colour profile that is calibrated is loaded when 'windows' starts, often you can see the screen colours alter slightly when the profile loads. Thus the profile applies to all the programs on your computer.
Thus the srgb profile photo mtb.jpg of yours should look the same in Internet explorer, firefox, windows picture gallery, photoshop or whatever, unless ---- well unless that particular program is assigning a different colour space/profile. You may have photoshop set to assign a different profile by default. In CS3 its on the 'edit' menu then 'assign profile'
If your using Vista check out what colour management is being applied via its icon in the control panel, or coming in the next version of windows (longhorn) look here http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... nHEC05.ppt for a powerpoint presentation which Theo can read for the next week and translate lol!
Just caught your other post on your printer colours being out also, join the club...Actually when I've sent stuff off to dsl labs they have come back ok. So I know that its my printer or the print profiles assigned by it and photoshop, not forgetting that the operating system 'Vista' in my case which may be interfering which is causing me problems.

Re: Pictures for the web
I've just had another look at the images and workflow. On my daughter's PC they look the same and now on mine they all look the same.
I reckon I've changed the settings so everything is sRGB, but it must have required a re-boot for everything to settle which I've done since yesterday.
On IE7/Firefox (via internet) it looks the same as Preview/Lightroom/Photoshop (via download).
I've certainly learnt a little more about colour trying to sort this out, so that's one positive from all of this.
I just now need to re-calibrate the monitor and sort out my printer!!!
Cheers
Andrew
PS - Andy C - have you managed to get them looking the same?!

Re: Pictures for the web
I still think I can see a slight difference, however this time its the opposite way round (not as saturated with ie7). This could well be my eyes and subliminal from it being mentioned in the first place. Again though, as I said previously the difference is marginally. One things for sure, if I dont compare them side by side I would swear they were identical.
