Is there any way to attach a photo to the pin so that when you hover over it or click on it it brings up a photo of the location, similar to google-earth? I think it would be quite good if it could do that.

Once you have logged into the map and selected the "places to shoot" map, you then need to click "edit", which brings in the tools (top left of the map). You can select a marker (looks like a balloon) and place it anywhere on the map and then add your comments. When you are editing the marker, you can also change the style, by clicking on the balloon and it brings up loads of others (I used the red pin).

If you edit the marker in "rich text" mode - you will see an icon for inserting images - if you click on this it prompts you for the URL for the photo - I added a photo for Formby "Rusty Wrecks" - where the photo is on Ephotozine (and presumably you can use Photobucket too).

So, in summary, I think we have everything we need to track good locations for photo opportunities and can add in our photos too, and we can all edit and contribute to the map.

Once you play around with it, there's not much to it so hopefully the above comments won't put people off!

PS - It may be worth putting the above "instructions" with the map URL and log in details. I've no idea how you do that!

Hi Paul - I agree - when I first looked at Google Maps and set this up, I just stuck a few pins in to: 1) see how it works and 2) to give people the idea. I agree it needs the photos too, to make it more worthwhile and I'll add some in tonight hopefully.

Sometimes you may see an image in a magazine, so you may not have a URL, so a good description of the area will be required.

If google maps doesn't allow the placematking with photographs google earth definitely does!
