What about

1)Blown air heating or Halogen heating instead of the overhead cookers.
2)A set of studio lights, stands, brollies, soft boxes etc for portraiture etc.
3)More chairs for the growing number of members.

Many Thanks.

Got to thinking .. Some people have surgested of moving the back wall back to allow more room for the members, but John has pointed out that the back wall is an external one and would cost a fortune to move .. Well my idea is to either block up the inner door and make a corridor through the "broom cupboard" (moving the broom cupboard else where) as the broom cupboard wall is just a plasterboard structure this could be done in club, or to use the back door near the toilets (maybe an issue due to the type of door that it is) this will allow for at least another 2 rows of seats in the back right hand corner of the room .. Just an idea .. not a perfect solution but an idea :D

Grand Designs here we come! Lol. My personal advice would be to allocate a budget to improvements and then get some quotes for the ideas listed here. You may be surprised at how expensive improvements to the club rooms will be.

One suggestion is to insulate the roof / floor / walls to make your existing heating seem more efficient (ie less time required to heat the space and less time for it to escape). Heating seems to be a constant item for improvement! Insulation will also reduce your bills.

This is the point of my earlier post. We would not have to spend a fortune because we can fit the door and door frame ourself. It is only an internal door.
I presume that the current door would have to have fire-door furniture fitted. The only question is whether this door would have to open outwards in which case the new door would have to be fitted on the right taking away the "highly used" backdrop corner.

This would allow the book case/table to be moved out allowing for at least 2 more rows (10 to 12 seats) of chairs on the left hand side.

Please keep the ideas coming in, but the debate needs to be later.

What we're trying to achieve is to get a feeling of what is felt is needed, no matter how small or large the idea may be. At the next committee meeting we will look at the list and see which items will be feasible and/or desireable to pursue further.

Even when projects are taken up, those that miss the final list can be deferred for the next financial year and looked at again as part of a new mix.

Only issue I can see with the "Book case and table" corner is the serving hatch :S that I think would be the biggest issue with taking up that corner with chairs .. also where would Sue/Joe ply their trade (I have a way with words don't I ? :D) we need a certain amount of floor space over there ... hence my idea only to take up the corner in the right (looking from the front) with chairs. like I said .. idea .. but I think a lot of people are asking for some more chairs for the growing poulace ... hows about gallerys and stalls .. give it that old cinema feel ? could even go with paper machae baroque gold carvings on the wall and nice carpet .. Pammie could come round at half time with choc ices and ki-ora orange :D

Your right is my left. We need room to get to our cup of tea.

You are not that far off. We could mount the projector from the ceiling and cable it to a lecturn at the front. The judge would stand behind it on a trap door with Len holding the remote trigger. Alternatively 3 lucky members each get a voting button. 3 Nos and he is down the chute. The only trick is to get the radio mike off him before he hits the back alley.

Seriously though I think the idea for the lecturn and the roof mounted projector would be cool .. I am sure there is enuff knowledge in the club to stick up some cable trunking around the walls and I really think it would tidy the middle section up a lot ... Judges and speakers would then be talking to the audience or be able to approach the screen without tripping over anything .. onluy drawback would be that any one standing and going into the back during a show would potentially get in the wa of the projected image :S

Heya me again

I just wanted to pop in and say a big hearty thank you to Len for the effort he has put in so far with the painting .. I think the club room is looking a damn sight better than it did and now that we are getting into the final stretch I realy think the club room is looking a great .. I know other members will agree with me but let me be the one to say it here.

Thanks Len, the room really does look a lot better :) great job done mate.

Len McNally wrote:My dreamings over for now cos Ruth has just walked in. Being serious now. With the long nights drawing in perhaps 2 halogen flood/spot lights with passive sensors in the alley. Would be easy job if we used the existing wiring from the lamps already there and they aint to expensive and they would only work when club in use.

Should we consult the people who's houses back onto the alley ...? if they have bedrooms in the rear and the spots are going off when the club exits after 10 there may be someone who may have issues with this .....
