I can see Bert's point ... If you get talking online to a new member then they can at least recognise you when they turn up at the club so for newer members it can be a bonus (though most of the new members through the door these days initially talk to Paul on line and Paul is one of the peeps without a mug shot for his avatar) .. for established members, then I think every one knows everyone else by sight (mostly) .. it may help if you have your face on the forum then instead of asking some one "who are you" you can check faces on the forum LOL .....
But as John says .. The forum is open to the whole internet (I invited a colleague at work, who is a member of Doncaster camera club, to take a look at our webbie and forum) so I can understand people wanting to keep some annonimity specially in this day and age of internet fraud and getting ripped off etc ....

As you can see I have just postd my avatar. Been reluctant to do so because I though I might end up looking a bit blue and around10ft tall with sticky out ears and a blobby nose like those from the film
At least I dont look like I am 10ft tall !!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Mike E
Have heard the expression 'talking 'til I'm blue in the face' but hadn't seen an example of it until now.
Suggest that you stop using wode and find another brand of skin cream my friend.

Thought as my hubby had uploaded a photo it was my turn as you can see Im a little more conventional than him, so hopefully now members have a face to put to the name,
