I clean mine myself.
Just make sure you get the correct size swab kit.

On a scale of 1 - 10, how difficult would you say it is to do it yourself. I have a Canon 450D and am always up for trying a bit of D.I.Y

A piece of cake
The 450 is the same size as the 300 or the 40 so I will bring a swap kit in tonight.
Just make sure your battery is fully charged because the only real problem is if the power runs out and the mirror comes down on the swap.
