Dumbing Down

The latest "dumbing down" seems to be from Sony and their new NEX-5, which replaces apertures with a "background defocusing" control. Very odd.

It's an odd design IMHO, with a tint, tiny body and a whopping great lens on the front of it. I onlyt see an advantage to a compact design if it means a compact camera overall. As it is, this means you still need a camera bag.

There's a 16mm - 24mm equivalent - pancake lens on the way which I would expect to lower the profile somewhat.

The dumbest feature I've heard of recently is a face recognition preset that has settings for cats and dogs.
