Thanks for organising Friday's portrait night, it was really nice to have a man to photograph for a change. James was a really nice chap and we all had a good laugh as well as getting some great photos out of it. I'm really pleased with the ones I took. Here is one of them.
I'll put together a CD for him.

James seems a likely character and I think you've all captured a little of his personality in different ways...

Gill - I really like this thoughtful pose. I think your image could perhaps be improved a tad with a minor Levels or Curves tweak to up the exposure a touch and brighten it up. It's perhaps half a stop or more on the underexposed side - but if that's what you were aiming for then OK. Try altering the Levels a touch in your image editing program though and see if you agree.

Also, watch out for 'fashion styling' before you take the shot, eg the way his jacket collar is jutting out at the back of his neck. (I know it's much easier to spot these things with hindsight...)


Ian - I think your image could benefit from the opposite, and I'd take the exposure down just a touch. This would give you a darker black background and less attention on the light jacket. Also, watch out for bright elements in the image taking the focus off the face, eg the white shirt cuff, which you could have reduced by asking him to pull his jacket sleeve up. A good effort.
