I was in France last week and took this in the Roman arena in Arles. This was a very lucky man :-).
Bulls are released one at a time into the arena and 10 young men (or idiots as they are know locally - I made that up) have to remove tokens attached to the bulls' horns. Of course sometimes the bulls try to remove tokens of their own.
Once all the tokens have been captured the bulls leave the arena unharmed.
Enough to make your eyes water

I like the kids expression in the front row - it says 'wow, what an idiot!'

Mike, I suppose you could see it as evolution in action.
I could barely watch for the first few minutes as I was certain one of them was going to get smacked by a bull - the bulls seemed very annoyed at the whole process. But in the event there was only one fairly minor injury.
This event appears to take place every Wednesday evening in the summer, so if anyone ever finds themselves in Arles (which is a very pretty town), it's well worth a visit. Especially as it only costs 7 Euros for a couple of hours entertainment and a visit to a roman arena.

Hi Steve
I've just had another look through your 'Picture A Week' site. There's some really good stuff there and I like the seaside towns theme.
One of my favourite images is the rundown shop in Morecambe. The expression on the lady shopowner's face is priceless.
