There is this book:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Original-VW-Cam ... 556&sr=8-1

It is basically a cookbook and also has short stories and lifestyle things about VWs. Well they are in the middle of writing version 2 of this book and our campervan has been asked to feature in the book (so excited!), but and there is always a but, they need some good photos of it in scenic backgrounds.

So I need names of places I could photograph the van with good scenery that you can park in. Not too far away as my poor campervan only travels at 50mph and eats fuel.

Here is the email they sent me:
It’s been a while since we had contact but now the layout work in our project has began.
We think your Bus is awesome and will make a big contribution to the new book :)

We do need one or two more pictures with nice sceneries from you.
It could be camping, grand views, by the forrest, sunny beach, mountains, wellknown landmarks, etc. Basically: the great outdoors!

In this mail you’ll also find our Questionary form. Please fill in and return to us with the highres pictures. We need the tech spec about the bus because that will be next to every bus in the book. If you have, please share some nice story/memory about the bus - that’s always cool to have along the bus for the readers.

This time VW Camper Cookbook will be all about the lifestyle of VW buses – and it’s the real people of the scene from all over the World that’s going to be the stars.

Haigh Hall, if you pick a quiet day, they will let you drive down from the hall towards the railway at the bottom, nice and scenic. Would also look good up against the hall, lit up with either studio lights, or, at night, they have spot lights aimed at the building.

This is a funky screaming orange van. It's not likely to sit kindly against sedate country houses or wide open vistas.

I would take it to Blackpool. Go early on a Sunday morning and shoot it against the tower (along the promenade) or with the big dipper in the backgound.
Turn the background in to black and white so the van jumps of the page.

Or you could take the coastal road from Southport to Formby and park it on the beach where the old Butlins place used to be.
Sea surf sand "down under" type of shot. You can drive nearly half a mile along the beach so you would have no one in the background.
A couple of old style folding chairs and turned in the B & W would give you a 1950 style shot. Stick your husband in one of them with a hanky on his head. :-d

Alternatively Astley green colliery with the winding gear in the background.

Finally you could take it to the centre of Bolton on a Friday night and show it surrounded by the wild life.

Some ace ideas...I want to do them all lolz!

We have a VW event booked this weekend at some castle in Wales, so might grab a few shots there...then going to do a selection of ideas posted on here and let them pick which they like. Awesome!

What I visualise is a fantasy shot - a stately home in the background, the van in the foreground and next to it a table set for High Tea. Silverware would be a bonus, and a waiter pouring the champagne would also. As I see it I'm thinking of The Avengers with Steed and Tara King sat in a filed with the antique Roll Royce and a full dinner table. For those who have no idea what The Avengers is any more, then Google will be your friend!

I can't find the wide shot, but add the van to this?

I'd personally forget about selective colour popping, 1950s black and white conversions and elaborate sets.
Just give the publisher what they've asked for. High res files of the van against some nice views.

Also, you should clarify the usage terms with them and what payment (if any) you will receive, and whether you will receive a free copy of the book.

That's exactly why I think those locations would suit it best. The contrast would work in the photograph's favour IMHO.

I finally put together a collection of images for the publishers and they have selected mainly urban styles, so big thank you to Theo on his Blackpool suggestion. I guess they get a lot of rural images and just wanted something different.

Here is one they selected =)

Sorry KT, a bit too much photoshopping for me, a beautiful vehicle by the way, as soon in the top photo.
Did you think about photoshopping the tower at all, it looks under construction.

The tower was under construction and it is the style I was aiming for, it isn't supposed to look as shot, which is how you find many of the VW images, but I know it's not to everyones taste.
