Forum Competition #86 Scrap It

The quality of photographs that are produced by ADAPs never ceases to impress - so, can we make a silk purse out of a sows ear? I have chosen any item(s) that have been scrapped, discarded, junked, left to rust etc. Can anyone find any beauty in a pile of junk or emphasis the sheer waste or loss of what was once a possibly treasured or interesting item? Other than derelict buildings, the choice is yours! Get the picture! Entries will close at midnight on 17/4/12. Have some fun with this one.

Janice

Well folks, here is the task I have been worrying about. It's all very well winning - judging is an entirely different matter. As much as I would like to wax lyrical about, lighting, tone, composition, technique - I am afraid that I do not have enough knowledge for that - however I do know what I like - and unfortunately that was all the entries! Why do people abandon or discard such diverse items?

Myra - Left to rot and Stelee - Low tide - Lovely shots of the boats and, despite the fact that they have been abandoned, still colourful and would make a good salvage project.

Tracey - The Safe - Like the subject matter and the fact that it looks unopened is intriguing. I would rescue this and use it as a cupboard

Des - Well Sprung - What a great place to find a leather (look?) Chesterfield - a little hideaway in a barn - wonderful

Yachtsman - Mooring post - I love wood and this has some lovely markings and textures - would love to dig this up and put it in my garden.

Keasla - Another great choice of subject - something different and what a place to open a picnnic site.

John - Almost a horror movie - who on earth would let a camera get into this state? Very apt subject matter.

Bazzasmeg- Tractor. Love the effect on this one - what I would call painterly and very colourful.

3rd Tracey - I like the moody forlorn effect and the subject is somewhat different.

2nd Yachtsman - I like the textures and the naturalness of the wooden post.

1st Des - Love the feel to this photo - decaying damp straw, scruffy sofa and peeling wall - but somehow strangely inviting! The muted colour of the straw sits well with the rich red of the sofa and the lovely colours in the wall.

Well done to everyone.

Thanks for the second place Janice, I had begun to think a non club member would not be considered.
Regards Eric :-O

Hi Eric (yatchsman),

I think I am right in saying that Bazzasmeg is a non club member - and he has won a number of times!

Cheers P

Hi Eric, I believe Pammie is correct. I am still a relative newbie to photography and the club and do not know who the members are. The fact that you are in the forum makes you eligible for consideration and I really liked your shot so keep them coming. Never in a month of Sundays did I expect to win. Just shows, if you join in....... and it is good fun and those that know provide some good feedback. Would be great to have more people entering.

A great result and congratulations to our winner.

Well done Janice, you judged well, and it's quite right that any forum member is eligible to join in. :)

Thank-you Janice, most unexpected.

It`s for sale if anyone would like it for their lounge.

I will give it some thought and post the next theme for competition 87 ASAP.

Cheers Des
