At last night's studio session with Melissa someone mentioned the famous "Afghan Girl" photograph, so here's more information on it.

Sharbat Gula is an Afghan woman who was the subject of a famous photograph by journalist Steve McCurry. Gula was living as a refugee in Pakistan during the time of the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan when she was photographed. The image brought her recognition when it was featured on the cover of the June 1985 issue of National Geographic Magazine at a time when she was approximately 12 years old. Gula was known throughout the world simply as "the Afghan Girl" until she was formally identified in early 2002. The photograph has been likened to Leonardo da Vinci's painting of the Mona Lisa and is sometimes popularly referred to as "the Afghan Mona Lisa".

If I had to choose, then these two images have stuck with me the longest and still move me emotionally.

Napalm Attack by Nick Ut - the look of fear in those childrens faces, awful, still brings tears to my eyes
On a lighter note, Lunchtime atop a Skyscraper by Chares C Ebbets - again, fear - for the mens safety and the photographer, it wouldn't have taken much to topple off to their deaths. Tracey

Hi all.
I'd choose Pennie Smith's photo of Paul Simenon for The Clash " London Calling " album cover. One of the best rock photos ever, even though she hated the fact that in her opinion it was out of focus.
There's surely hope for us all!
