I guess it's sometimes down to personal preference.

For me I'd say toned in this particular image. The reasoning for me is that the toned look draws me more in to the picture, from the wet puddles, across the field and then up through the trees and sky.

The toned image just feels better to me, although this is possibly just my personal preference. Nice shot though :-)

Of the two, I prefer the straight black and white.

I'm not overly keen on the purple. If it was toned with a different colour I might like it better, eg perhaps more of a yellow/golden/sepia tone.

I prefer the toned version in priciple, but I'm not sure that this is the best tone. It's a good image anyway.

Great image Mark. I prefer the B+W. I like the more natural approach. But would add a little more light to the puddle area. Looks to me like theres a bit of cloud missing to the left, of the left hand tree.

Mark, at first I thought the 'straight' black and white, but then looking closer at the toned, there appears to be more contrast in some areas over the B and W, but I am still not sure of the colour. We'lll talk more about the trees when we meet!

Now the first toned image looks much better on my phone screen than on the PC monitor at work!
Think the sepia is the wrong colour unless you degrade the image a little - noise, blur, vignette or whatever 2 click process you have in Lightroom!

Hi Mark

I think I prefer the toned one, purple as opposed to the sepia. It seems to have more definition and contrast range but tend to agree with the other comments in that I'm not sure if purple is the best toned colour to use.

I think you just need to find the right colour of toning. I would be looking for a Selenium tone for this one.

Agreed. For me, neither the purple or the sepia are quite right.
But it's your image so go with what you like.
