It’s that time of year again when Mrs J starts to ask me “What do you want for Christmas?” And as usual, I say “Anything” and end up with several pairs of socks. Sound familiar…?

If you’re in a similar position, perhaps this list of gift ideas for photographers that I've just added to my Blog may help.

Hope you've been good all year Paul, good luck with that.

My wife said 'want a laptop for Christmas?'
So, I'm having one of these! - http://www.dabs.com/products/lenovo-ide ... 580&src=16

I used DEC25 voucher code for £25 off, plus £75 cashback from Lenovo and £17.50 back from quidco.com, she was nearly as happy as I was!
She won't let me spend all the money I've saved on a monitor to go with it though, but she was pleased with me all the same!

Start writing them lists people!

Paul, there are a few refurbished 50mm f1.8 on Canon's own ebay outlet to save a couple of pounds.

Hi Philip

I already have the Nikon 50mm, and used it last weekend. I put that on the list for the Canon shooters.

The list was just to get people thinking about different gift ideas. It seems you can buy almost anything on Amazon now.

Good tip about voucher codes, Philip. For any online purchase it's worth doing a quick Google search to see if there are any money-off offers available. :D

Aye, bought the Nikon 35mm f1.8 last week for £140 from amazon less a further £20 cash back from Nikon. £120 not bad for a cracking little lens.

So, has everyone chosen their Christmas presents yet...?

I still have no idea what to ask Father Christmas for? Has anyone got any good photography book recommendations?

How about Beauty in Decay and Beauty in Decay II, classics of urban exploration.

Can I also add that Altered Images (Carpet Bombing Culture, The People who do the Beauty in Decay books) is a very nice coffee table book that will also give people something to talk about with its left of scetre take on the photography world :-

http://carpetbombingculture.co.uk/index ... red_images

You also have the Abandoned Places books by Henk van Rensbergen volume 2 is now available at a more sensable price (this side of £200) and volume 3 is released in Jan 2013

For those looking for something interesing to do in the Big Smoke there is this - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Under-London-In ... 4D1RZBBGFL may have destinations a little more legal than closed hospitals and Underground stations

There are the Keith Warrender books if your after something a bit closer to hom (Underground Manchester, Below Manchester and Manchester Oddities)

Me ? hell I'd just like a paid for trip to Pripyat :D Or a new P.C. that can hack Assassin's Creed 3 it the uper range of settings :S

Thanks John and Brian.

Good suggestions, I'm sure, though I'm yet to see the attraction in Urban Exploration. I'm more inclined towards portraiture, glamour, boudoir, nude, erotic photography books. :D

This was the last book I got - "Boudoir Photography" - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1907579192/?tag=paujon-21

Paul I can totally understand your take on things but there is only so much you can do to dress up a studio ... take a look - http://www.anniebertram.com/ - Annie does a hell of a lot of stunning photography in abandoned/urbexy places ... I know its mostly goth on here (its Annies Forte) but I have seen other fashion and glamour type shoots from other artists done in similar locations ... Don't knock them ;)
