Hi Janice
If you want to get into AV, you may have missed a post from earlier this year of mine, for a guide to editing PTE video & Audacity. you can download it here.

Almost forgot, I posted a new show on YouTube today called Wilfred Owen's war, not really a girly show just something to do during the rainy season.

I've also included a screen shot of the Audacity make up of Wilfred Owen's war.

Really enjoyed the presentation. Thanks for this guide. Really helped me to get started. It may be worth mentioning that if it is difficult to find the music you want to use but have heard it on the TV say. I have found it and down-loaded the music from YouTube using 'YouTube Downloader HD' then converted from FLV to MP3 using 'Convert FLV to MP3' software these are both free. Its fun finding some great tracks to play with.

Hi John
Glad you liked the show.
I have literally 1000's of music tracks & if I wan't something specific I can download it from Amazon for under a pound. The problem arises when you try to publish a show on say Youtube with copyright music, their policeing system will pick up anything with copyrighted music or video included on it. It's then up to the individual to decide wether to allow the show to remain on Youtube with the possibility of the copyright owner using the law to claim damages for infringement without permission. This is becomming more & more common as it becomes easier to download copyright material.
However, in some instances when YT flag up an infringement they can be wrong. On my Wilfred Owen's War show, there was a track they flagged as CR, I knew it wasn't as it was a copyright free version I had bought that didn't have the correct title so I made up a title & it was that they picked up as it was a common name for similar pieces. I challenged them & earlier this week they confirmed their flag was incorrect. There is lots of information on using copyright music on the IAC (Institute of Amatuer Cinemaphotographers) web site http://www.theiac.org.uk/

Hi Thanks

Yes I really enjoyed Sue's presentation. To be honest I hadn't given the legal side a thought. But it will make me think about that.

Hi
I have just completed 3 video tutorials on the basic use of Audacity in audio visual productions. they are available as free downloads from Mediafire. This is my first attempt at using video capture software, so be gentle. The videos were produced using Pictures To Exe, Camtasia Studio 8 & Audacity of course.

These are quite large files so beware.
Enjoy

I've made a new thread of this as it is a subject in its own right.

Re: More Audacity by yachtsman1 Tutorial No4.

This is a synopsis of the first 3, I have uploaded it to Youtube which is a low resolution rendition & can be streamed live. It is also on Medifire as an Exe file at 52MB which is much better graphically. My advise if you are interested in these, is to watch the YouTube version first & if you want to keep it, download the Mediafire version to preserve your eyesight.

That's a kind offer and I am really struggling with something

I uploaded two files recently for my husband ( we are learning to make AVs together)
and he has had copyright notices from YouTube on both
One for the soundtrack and one for the content
Both AVs have the same photos which he took himself
So I filled in the dispute thing
On the soundtrack dispute I put that he was not making a profit from them

To be honest we are both disheartened by this as I had built us a website
To share AVs and photos with our long distance family
As our webhosting only allows for 100mb files I had thought YouTube links would be a good solution

So when you say about changing the trackname
Is that the filename of the mp3 before adding it to PTE?

Hi
It's quite a while since I wrote this so you will have to bear with me. I don't remember what I said about changing the track name, but if it was in the context of avoiding Youtube's copyright detection process, things have got worse this year. I started compiling copyright free music with the intention of using specifically on Youtube presentations, in particular from a musician called Kevin Macleod. Most of his stuff is electronically produced, but he does have a few well known pieces, if you Google his name you should find them. Some of his stuff is not CF so you have to sift through it. However a couple of months ago I started producing lamps made from cameras & musical instruments. I made a couple of promos (Aladdin's Kampro Lamps) & uploaded them onto Youtube, they used Macleod tracks. One was flagged by Youtube as copyright even though on KM's site it wasn't. I didn't bother fighting them & just let the upload stay flagged. If your uploads are definitely non profit making, you could join the IAC & get their licences which YT recognises in the UK. If you are in a camera club affiliated to the IAC it is relatively inexpensive, under £20 per year, if you aren't it could cost over £70 per person making the shows. There is lots of info on the IAC site.
To sum up, depending on the popularity of the track you use will determine the possibility of someone taking steps preventing you using their music. Uploading to Mediafire & Dropbox is an alternative to Youtube & they don't use the flag system, however if you read their copyright rules, the same things apply.
Hope this helps.

It's a family celebration for us on Tuesday
so will be using treat money to get that licence sorted

What we have to remember with copyright is that the creator of a work (music, photography, etc) owns the rights to it. If we want to use it, for profit or not, then we need to ask permission and probably pay a fee. We are using somebody else's work and we usually as photographers get a bit upset if people use our images without permission.

It does get complicated sometimes when pop stars in particular start tweeting how nice it is that someone used their recording in a wedding video, but no doubt their legal team wouldn't share the same feeling!
Best regards

John
