Many of you probably use a hosting site to store you bulky files. I use Mediafire or Dropbox, there are others, but in the main I use Mediafire, it's free at the moment, you can store up to 50GB & upload files up to 200MB at any one time. The PTE forum I use has lots of newcomers who are asked to upload their problem files to a web hosting site to enable those in the know to diagnose what their problem is. Because they are newcomers they sometimes have no idea what a web hosting service is, so with that in mind & using Camtasia 8 screen capture software I have produce a demonstration of how I use Mediafire. It happens to residing on Mediafire & it's a 28MB download, so not too big. The link to download it is- enjoy.

Sometimes remote hosting of files is a good choice, but a couple of companies have gone caput and then it's a mad scramble to try and reclaim the files in the cloud. Sometimes they stay in the cloud, forever lost.
So I only use cloud storage as temporary storage and file exchange and Dropbox is a good example of this. Not tried mediafire, but if and when needed I'll remember it, so many thanks for the info.

Hi john
I've been using Mediafire since around 2008, the only problem I've had is the unwanted advertising, but if you can tolerate that it's fine for me. They have recently advertised a budget account which costs arond £15 per annum paid monthly. It doubles the storage & increases the file upload size. I use it as a final backup to my 2 x 1 TB storage HD's + my 1TB PC HD which I have partitioned and also 3 laptops with various amounts of storage, 1 of which I keep for presentations & rarely use on the 'net, I also wear a belt & braces, but only because I'm dieting & my pants fall down if I don't

.
