Melissa - 'Day for Night'

Post by Paul Jones »

My latest Blog post...

La Nuit Américaine is a 1973 French film starring Jacqueline Bisset and directed by Francois Truffaut.

In French, ‘Nuit Americaine’ (American night) is a cinematography / photography process where sequences shot outdoors in daylight are captured using tungsten (artificial light) or infrared film stock and underexposed (or dimmed during post production) to appear as if they are taking place at night. The English title of the film is ‘Day for Night’, which is the English term for the process.

Paul I prefer the first image, there is something that the technique brings to the mood of the image ... reminds me of a Marlene Dietrich photo, and if it wasn't it should have been. Be interested to see what it would look like with the light levels reduced some more.

Thanks Walter. That is exactly the type of ambience that I was aiming for. I'm pleased that you like it. :D

Good call. I may give it a go.

Hi Paul

The smoke machine really works on these photos (unlike on my attempts with Georgiana!).

Thanks Mel

It was a bit of trial and error. I don't think we got it as good as we could with G. Need more practise.

I'm just processing some of the G photos and am loving them. :D
