Hi everybody

A picture from our recent visit to Jersey for your perusal. All comments welcome but in particular
is it Colour or Mono for you?

Mono for me Mike, with a tighter, square or 6x7 crop.

Yes - I think the mono version has more impact.

Hi Mike.
I'm going to buck the trend & say I prefer the colour version. Maybe it's my eyesight or my monitor, but colour seems to bring out the textures slightly more than the mono.

Though I would have preferred if the horizon line wasn't cutting through the top of the lighthouse.

Colour for me as well. I like the drama of the B & W, but also like the touch of serenity that the colour adds to a rugged scene.
I never know what to do with horizon lines in such a situation. What would you have done please Paul? Anybody else want to comment/advise on that aspect?

Difficult to say Janice. It would all depend on the elements in the scene and how I want to portray them. Sky lines in landscapes are similar, the perceived wisdom on that is not to break the sky line, something a bit difficult with a seascape without say in Mike's image, it looking like it's going to be engulfed by a wall of sea ... so here I would drop the horizon a little but then that changes the dynamic in the elements in the scene. Don't know the lay of the land where the shot was taken, but a move to the right and down may have brought in some coastline in the background to help break up the horizon line ... as I say, it's that combination of what is there in front of you and how you want to represent what you 'see'.

Crouched down to frame the shot with the lighthouse above the horizon line.

(Note - I'm not knocking Mike's shot. Just that the horizon line bugged me a litle.)
