Youngest daughter now 15months, time has certainly flown by.
Here is my latest portrait of her using a flash in an un-difused soft box.

I like what you're shooting for here. She's a cutie.

Two possible improvements:

LIGHT POSITION

Raise your main light up higher.

Do you see how you have the catchlight in her eyes at the 9 o'clock position? This has resulted in the nose shadow going across her left cheek. If the light was higher so that the catchlight is at the 11 o'clock position it would make for a more flattering light (Rembrandt).

EXPOSURE

I get that you were going for a subdued look, however the image is around three stops underexposed, so gives a somewhat 'muddy' look.

Expose for the face next time.

Here, I've altered the 'Levels' to raise exposure. I hope you won't mind me editing your image.

As she was bum shuffling around I thought I'd leave the soft box on the floor etc (for safety) but can see what you are getting at with shadows etc.
I think my MacBook screen must be a lot brighter as the image I have there doesn't look so under exposed, learning curve there too I guess.
