Thursday 8th June – The Terry Mooney set subject competition

Post by John Hardman »

On the 8th June we have planned a Terry Mooney set subject competition which will be an annual event.

For the first competition it has been decided that the subject most appropriate would be ‘Street Photography’.

An external judge will adjudicate the competition so it will be another excellent night.

Don't forget to start collecting together your images for this competition.

Terry's son Michael and daughter Pauline will be in attendance, so let's make it a brilliant show to start off this new competition!

Is there a specification as to what classes as "street photography" and what doesn't... ?

This last week we had an evening on the subject to try and focus our ideas as to what it might mean. The essence of that is a pretty broad area, but basically shots where people are shot on the streets (not necessarily literally streets, but public places outside) either as candid shots or where permission is asked to shoot first.

Your latest set of images on the ADAPS Facebook page and the one on Pentax User Gallery are street photography. Also the ones from me, mark and Sue from our recent Manchester walk, again all on Facebook.

Hope that helps!
Best regards

PS Taking a model and shooting on the streets wouldn't be classed as street photography. The subjects of the images are strangers going about their daily lives.

Thanks John, I was just a little confused, As some of the images I have seen I would describe as architecture,

Yes they are and those are clearly not street photography. Glad to clear it up.
