Still practising with Photomatix. Any thoughts on this one?

You're free to disagree with me John, but I don't think this works either. One of the things I've noticed with HDR images is that the sky often looks as if it's been Photoshopped in from a different frame, with a different exposure. Sorry to say that this looks the same to me.

As I say, feel free to ignore me <grin>.

It looks like one of your images is off position again which is creating a strange double image in the frame. It looks like its a complicated skill to master.

There are three images in this and probably some wind movement between shots. What I don't understand is why it looks as though clouds are blending over the building. The building didn't move that's for sure.

John, as Mike pointed pointed out, it looks like one of your images is out of line, if you look closely you can see parts of the roof lower than they should be. So the overlapping clouds would be from this lower image.



Best to view your original posted picture, this image is a little small to see clearly the out of line image

I have just run a quick image through Photomatix. Its not true HDR as the original image is a jpeg, which I increased/decreased the exposure in photoshop to get 4 varied exposure images.

Thanks for that. I wonder if the problem was because I chose an image with probably lots of wind movement. Maybe that confused the software? I did actually use the same settings as you did.

Looks good, granted some of the HDR images dont look real, but personally i like them.

John, sorry that looks over sharpened - and the colours, well I'm too polite to say <grin>.

Is there something in this software that bumps up the saturation? It seems to be one of the common factors in all of the images. Looking at the shot outside the Trafford Centre, the original is how I'd expect it to look under cloudy conditions.

You can do almost anything, or not, as dictated by what you are trying to achieve. Her's another go, this time from one image saved several times with different "exposures" but not processed with such lack of regards for reality:

Boulge Church, Near Woodbridge, Suffolk.

The second two images seem to be more on target! They do look surreal don't they.

I like Des's image which has a nice warmth to it. Maybe it could be a little crisper? The composition is spot on and I can see how HDT could be useful in keeping detail throughout.
