Topless Modelling Session

No, I'm not volunteering...
My thoughts are turning to arranging some portrait nights on some fridays, no dates or firm details yet.
Initially, can you please let me know here if there is a demand for a topless modelling session. This would be a hired model and a modest charge would be made to cover costs. Perhaps covering and modest are not the right words in this context, but you know what I mean...

John, I would be interested in friday portrait nights. Clothed or unclothed, Its nice to have a willing model rather than badgering my kids and family to practise on.

If you are looking at different types of shoots how about a "fashion shoot".
I remember Ian Austen bringing some pictures in from a studio shoot he had done and they were smashing.
It would need either a very experienced model to guide the photographers or some one who knows what he is doing. (maybe Ian is an expert by now and can be enticed back to the club for a night

)
With the number of new members we have a guided portrait shoot aimed at folk who have not done a studio shoot before may also be appreciated.
I am still trying to get my head around what moving the lights up/down, left/right, main/fill etc actually does to the lighting of the face so any workshops going over the different permutations would be good (maybe during the day between Xmas and New Year???

)
A studio set up with the results shown immediately on the screen would be ideal (similar to what Phil did in the on-camera flash session)
Regards
Theo

OK, we'll try to sort out something for the very near future, probably early January as booking people (such as models) can be very tricky in the period running up to Christmas.

Hi,
Having acquired Andy's portaflash lights similar to the ones the club has, plus 4 of the smaller Series II lights I think I could run a practical session (workshop) on studio flash, say one evening for those interested to go over some of the problems raised by Theo. (unfortunately I'm away between xmas and New Year)
Similar to the manufacturer's flash talk I did, I could link the 450D camera into my computer and the projector so we could see the results as they happen. It wouldn't need a model present and would be more of a hands on experimenting with light workshop. I'm no expert on studio flash by any means so it would be a case of trying different light combinations, main/fill etc and also there should be enough lights to do high key, and if not I can cheat a little by using one of my Canon EX580 flashguns to achieve the effect.
Hopefully it would be of use prior to hiring a model, though obviously a session from someone like Ian Austen would be good, I think in the timescale we may struggle to get someone like him.
Anyway, just a thought, one evening before christmas or early in the new year is ok for me. For the techie's amongst us, I attended a portrait night at Rivington Park Galleries the other week and took a number of pics without flash with varying results
http://www.oakeycoke.co.uk/portraits.html should take you there to see what happens under fluorescent lights at shutter speeds above x-sync.

Interesting reading. Now can you do a piece on Stephen Hawkin's theory of everything. I tried to read it but it gave me a green cast
I for one would be like a workshop as you outlined above. It would be an opportunity to get some "hands-on" experience with different lighting set-ups without the pressure of having to get some decent photos.
Maybe we should open two new threads. One for the work shop and one for the fashion shoot and see how many people would be interested in each.

We can happily schedule both ideas and I'll have a chat with those concerned to see when they can be available.
In the meantime, express your interest here for one or both workshops and we'll see how many may be interested.
