Server Move

Post by Mike »

Hello everyone.

There does seem to be a growing problem with the speed and reliability of the server at the moment. I have been in touch with the hosting company and they have agreed to move me to a new server with updated with the latest versions of mySQL and php. This should hopefully solve the problems we have been experiencing.

The down side is that the forums will be down and read-only for somewhere between 2-5 days depending on the speed of the restore process at the other end (and how efficient yours truly is).

I am going to start the process of the backup on Friday / Saturday morning so don't be surprised when the forum is inaccessible. This will make sure that posts don't get lost in the move.

Apologies for the problems, hopefully it will make the site a more pleasurable experience for everyone!

Hi

I noticed the server hosting this site is on the west coast (USA)

I'll quite happily host the site in our Manchester data centre for free, since nearly all of the images are externally linked I cant see it using much bandwidth or disk space, I also do this with www.slambikers.co.uk other club I’m a member off, let me know if you’re interested

Thanks, Mark, for the kind offer.

It's a bit more complicated because this forum is only a part of a wider hosting requirement that we have, so we will be staying put with the same provider.

We do appreciate the thought though! :D
Best regards

Hi John
No problem, just trying to offer a helping hand.... that being the case maybe you would consider some friends of mine at http://www.rackspace.co.uk, they're on our peering platform in Telehouse and have a good setup, their servers are fast, reliable and support...... well their fanatical!

Cheers

The files and database has been moved correctly. I have now changed the dns settings to match the domain www.adapsuk.org to the server ip address. This process should take between 24-72 hours to complete but can be shorter depending on uncontrollable items across the entire internet. Hopefully we will have no further problems. :]

On a side note. If anyone has any problems please do not hesitate to let me know through the support forum. Personally the website seems to be much quicker than normal but I can't test everything!

The dns transfer seems to have been quicker than I anticipated! The server seems to be associated with the domain name now and we are back and live. :-d
