Well we're back now from a week of superb weather. Even the midges were kind, beaten off by our insect repellant!

We were staying is a roof top terrace garden apartment. Meals out on the terrace looking over the Kirkcudbright rooftops....glass of wine....what could be more pleasant.

Here's a sample photo from Logan Botanical Gardens, near Stranraer:

There are plenty of castles worth visiting, but make sure you see Caerlaverock and Threave at least.

I'll get together a list of things that might be of interest.

Have a look on the tourist board theres some brochures you can download,
http://www.visitdumfriesandgalloway.co. ... rerequest/

If you get chance to stop in Dumfries - then across the river theres a red deer area,
it should still be there, ive not been for a few years, so cant be sure,
its best to park up on the local park, on your left just as you come in to Dumfries,

New abbey is a good place to stop for a day out, its only a very small village,
but has sweetheart abbey, the old saw mill and a couple of other things.

if you go on google maps, find the area your stopping, then click more at the top,
you can click on pictures, and it will show you a few pictures peoples took of different things around the areas.
