Keasla,

I think there are a couple of photos on your Flicker stream you've linked to that are better posed than these you have posted.

I think the background is a bit deistracting as the floor is dirty and the background has a dint in at least a couple of the photosm it may be worth cleaning these up a little. I don't think that the background needs to be perfect (0) white, just a little hoover around the feet.

Unfortunately, I'm not too keen on a few of the poses, although, as this is your third go, this is not a criticism of you. For me, this is a criticism of the studio and the model. If this is an open day, then I think they should pick more experienced models who have a reportoire of poses to fall back on.

The model with the red hair looks closer to what I mean as there are a range of poses shown.

It can be very daunting on open days to pick your own poses, however, what I would say is get your own model. If you don't have your own lights and studio, then don't be afraid to go outside and use the big ball in the sky (when available). Make as many mistakes as you can as well and look at the results.

Ona studio day, you rarely get chance to actually speak to a model.

The first image is strongest, but maybe still a little severe. The area bottom left would be as well cloned out as it only adds a small distraction away from the eyes. All the rest of the picture points us to the face, which is good. I'm not sure that the lighting is particularly flattering, but that was no doubt out of your control.

The second suffers from being a bit bland lighting-wise (nothing you could do) but more than that a bit of an ungainly pose. It puts all of our attention in the wrong place, where the actual facial shot is quite pleasing. She doen't really look comfortable either, but then with a melee of photographers facing her that might not be too surprising!

Keep at it and the idea of a loaction shoot is an excellent one.
Best regards

John

Hi Jared

I like the intensity of the colour in the first image and I think that she is strong enough to stand out against a a more dramatic background. The second image I find less attractive, I think that the pose doesn't show the model at her best. Even with the lack of control at group shoots it is the perfect place to practise your direction skills so that when you go to the expense of your own shoot/model choices you are better prepared.

Both sets on Flickr are really sharp and I feel that you may not have displayed the best of the sets on here. Good work.

Hi Keasla (Jared ?) I looked at these earlier but hesitated posting. One point is that you post lots of photos but never acknowledge anyone's comments after they have taken time to give feedback, so I'm not sure how much value you place on peoples' comments.

That aside, I can appreciate that you're new to studio photography. I can also appreciate that you possibly had little input into setting up these photos. If the group shoot at this new studio was anything like the ones I've witnessed in the past, you often have someone setting the lights up for you and telling you what camera settings to use then it's just a matter of trying to get some decent shots of the model while she runs through a series of set poses. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The first shot (Strawberry Venom) is the best shot for me and shows potential. I would assume that she has had more modelling experience than the second girl. It's a good effort. You've got a decent look from her, showing attitude and I think if you re-worked this image it wouldn't be half bad.

The lighting is pretty flat due to the lacklustre 'copy-stand' flat lighting, so there's nothing you can do about that. The image has a pink colour cast which can easily be corrected. If you shot in RAW have another go with it, give it more 'punch' to bring out more detail in her face, her eyes and her hair and see what you come up with.

Now onto the second shot (Emzi). Glamour photography should be about flattering the subject (I think) - making her appear alluring, appealing, sexy and desireable. I see none of that here. Sorry. She seems to have a pretty face but you've not made the best of it. And the marks on the paper backdrop do it no favours. On the whole, it lacks a certain "elegance" for want of a better word.

Keep practicing and posting.
Paul
