Forum Competition #90 - Great Britain
Hi All
This last 12 months has been a good year for Great Britain. First of all William and Kate's wedding last summer, the Queens Golden Jubilee this year not to mention hosting the Olympics, and dare we hope that England get through tonight against Italy in the World Cup - - you never know....!!!
I'd like to dedicate this competition to Great Britain. How do you perceive our country, what do you think makes it great - or not so great. I'm looking for images that encompass this land we live in and when you see the image, it leaves no doubt in your mind of its origins. It could be historical or modern, people, places or events, it could even be about the good old British weather - get your thinking caps, there's bags of scope.
The closing date is midnight on Saturday 8th July.
Good luck everyone.
Tracey

Looks like I'm first in again. My picture was taken on Jubilee Monday & shows Tarleton Brass band on Lord Street Southport.

The British Empire. No comment as to whether that's good or bad, but it generated much of the wealth of Great Britain. Made from images shot at Sandringham.
Best regards

Re: Forum Competition #90 - Great Britain
Hi All
Sorry again for the delay posting this.
Yachtsman1 - Brass Band
This is a very British scene and fits the brief very well. I like how the colours are predominantly red, white and blue with the uniforms and bunting, I just feel it's a shame that we can't see the musicians faces very well and can only see their backs, I feel that if you could have taken the photo from a different angle, it may have made for a stronger composition.
Pammie - Funland
I really like this good clean image with a very simple composition, I like how you have kept it a mono apart from the British flag.
Janice - Union Jack
Another use of colour popping, which is something I have not mastered yet. I think if there had been a bit more tonal range in the sky it would have improved the image slightly, there's alot of white sky in this image.
John - British Empire
A clever, well thought out image of the British empire with Sandringham in the middle, unfortunately, it looks like the building has had one too many sherry's (or I have), it looks like it's sloping a bit to the left.
Mancunian61 - Blackpool Beach
This is another very British scene and fits the brief very well. It's a well composed image and you have managed to capture this on a nice day (a nigh on impossibility recently).
Phil - Model in Union Jack
This is also a nicely composed image, I like the dynamic angle you have taken this at, which allows you to keep in the whole flag, I like how this hang down and been arranged at her feet.
Now for the results......
3rd Place - Pammie
2nd Place - Phil
1st Place - Mancunian61
Congratulations and over to you Mancunian61, sorry, I can't remember who this is
Best Wishes
Tracey

Re: Forum Competition #90 - Great Britain
Well judged Tracey and congratulations to Mancunian (Ann) - who would come to Britain without visiting Blackpool. I agree with you about the sky on mine, but on the day.... The Weather certainly does not help us newbies! Looking forward to the next one and just wish that a few more members would get involved. Bring it on Ann.

Re: Forum Competition #90 - Great Britain
Hi all,
Thank you Tracey, so much - I'm so pleased for the good comments and to have won my first comp! Well done to everyone else and I agree, Janice, it would be nice to see more entries. With regard to the sunny day, I had to go to a photo taken over a year ago to find one
Now I'm stuck because I have to pick the next theme and then judge the entries!!!!
I will have a think and check the previous themes and get back to you all.
Very best wishes.
Ann
