Forum Competition #96 - Woman

Post by Paul Jones »

The theme for this competition is a favourite subject of mine - 'Woman'.

Post a photograph of a woman, or something that you think defines a woman. It could be a beauty shot, a studio portrait, a candid shot, a nude study, a glamour shot, a character study, an abstract image or anything else that says 'woman' to you.

I am using the definition of a woman to be a human adult female, so no shots of babies, girls or animals please.

The closing date is in two weeks, at midnight on Saturday 27th October.

Good luck.
Paul

Well I could post a studio portrait or something quite glamorous, but decided on something a bit more quirky.

Here's a lady glamming herself up on the promenade at West Kirby. I call it "Seaside Lippy"

Probably my most pleasing photo I've taken in the last few months.

Thanks for your entries everyone, though I'm surprised that there were so few. I thought the subject would have appealed to more people.

To the judging...

Pammie
Yes, a quirky shot indeed. And well seen. Well handled and well exposed.
The main problem for me is the van in the background, which you've tried to deal with by desaturating it (very well) , but it still dominates the image and drags ones eye away from the woman. Sorry.

John
Melissa is very photogenic. I really like the natural aspects of this shot. It has some distractions in the background, however not enough to take your eye from the main subject. There's some nice highlights in her hair, which lift the shot aswell.

Janice
Another quirky shot and a bit different. The post-processing is perhaps a little heavy, but it certainly brings out the tones. Good novelty factor.

Philip
A very pleasing and very natural portrait. Nothing wrong with it at all. The intense look on her face suits the style of it well.

Tracey
A super shot. Pleasing shapes and good composition.

3rd place: Philip
2nd place: Tracey
1st place: Janice

I'll now ask Janice to choose a theme for the next competition, with the usual two week deadline. :D

Best regards
Paul

Well, absolutely gobsmacked! I saw this figure whilst on holiday and I thought it was such fun - I only spotted it when turning back to admire a view! Since gaining a camera I have also gained 2 left (or right) feet and find myself walking in circles so I don't miss anything! Thanks for choosing this Paul - and like you, I thought this category would have attracted more entries. Just need to think of a subject now. I will mull this over and hopefully come up with something in the next 24 hrs.

Regards

Jan
