Hello Everyone!

Post by Chris »

Hi all,

Just wanted to swing by and introduce myself. My name is Chris and I live in sunny Daisy Hill not too far from Atherton. I've been interested in photography for some time now, but have started taking a real serious interest in it in the past few months.

I've just progressed from a D70 (that I probably didn't use as much as I should have, nor learn to use it to get the most from it) to a Nikon D300 (which is by far the best camera I have ever owned, seen or used - at least in my inexperienced opinion). I generally end up taking more portrait shots than anything else, primarily because I don't really have much time to get out and about (work!). However I am really interested in off camera flash shots and what can be achieved (creatively speaking) so am hoping to set some time (and money) aside for this in the near future.

I'm interested in joining the club/society very soon and was directed this way by Richard Billingham (Jessops, Bolton). I've been having a look around the site and forum (and all the links that spin off into the ether) and am really impressed with a lot of what I've seen. Hopefully if I can pick up a few tips from others I'll be very happy indeed.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and say that you can expect to see me around here and hopefully at the meet-ups soon.

Cheerio for now,

Chris :]

Hi Chris

Welcome - glad you registered and made yourself known.

You'll be welcome to pop down and see what we do at the club - check out the syllabus page for anything that might especially interest you. There's lots in preparation for the summer and beyond as well, so feel free to mention any special interests and as much as possible will be added to the programme.

In the meantime enjoy the site and forum and have a good time with the new camera!
Best regards

John

Hi Chris

Welcome to the ADAPS Forum. Feel free to stick around and join in our discussions and online image competitions.

If you'd like to come down to any of our meetings every Thursday night you're more than welcome.

If you're interested in lighting you might also like to check out the Lighting Techniques Forum at DPReview.com

Also, see the 'Photography Help' links on the ADAPS site to people like Neil Turner, Dave Black and Strobist.

Thanks John & Paul.

Appreciate the warm welcome and also the links from the site. I am slowly making my way through most of the links and hadn't got to those yet - so thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Hi all,

Me again, my apologies that I didn't follow up on my intention to come down and join... literally days after I posted that message we found out we (me and the fiance) were going to be parents.... and 9 months later (Sep 30th) our gorgeous little girl was born.

Image

Now that she's here and settling into the world (and getting used to being in front of daddy's camera), I thought I'd try and get down for a few of the meets and pick up where I never really left off. :)

I'll probably start atending in the middle of January as by the look of the syllabus, with presentations and xmas closing, I don't think it would be a good idea to do so before then... although I like the sound of tomorrows meeting and may try and get away from work on time.

I can't promise I'll be able to make every evening or even that I'll last (as this parenting thing is a bit of a time consumer at the moment), but I can promise that I'll do my best.

I spend a lot of time reading and learning on Flickr (as I know a few other ADAPS folk do too) and was suprised that there was no "Group" setup to post images to the pool etc, so I went ahead an set one up, I'll give admin access etc to the ADAPS staff, just join and post when done so and I'll ensure it gets done.

The Group URL is: http://www.flickr.com/groups/adaps/ - if I've overstepped by doing this, let me know and I'll close and remove the group.

So.... what do I need to do to join/attend? Do I bring my camera? Leave it at home? Bring a pad/pen/laptop etc?

Thanks,

Chris

To join, just pop along to a meeting or two, sample what we do and if that confirms you want to join I'm the one to see about it. You don't need to bring anything unless you want to, perhaps for discussion about a camera, or maybe even to show us some images on your laptop. Entirely up to you, but you'll be most welcome.
Best regards

Thanks Chris. I'll put a link to the Flickr group from our website.

We also have a Facebook group which I'll link to. John, or anyone, can you tell me the Facebook address (URL)?

Hi Chris and welcome!
I only joined the club a couple of weeks ago myself, so I'm a bit of a newbie like you. I knew it was the right club for me as soon as I stepped thru the door. As you'll find out, it has a real active buzz about the place - so different from other clubs I've tried where the atmosphere was positively dreary.

Like you, I've got a D300 kit but I'm struggling to find the time to make good use of it due to work and other hobbies that consume much of my time. Joining ADAPS will no doubt motivate me to pull my photographic finger out

I look forward to meeting you sometime soon at the club.

Tom
