Which One Was Correct

Bought a small vase off Ebay a couple of weeks ago. As soon as it arrived I complained because the colour was nothing like the Ebay image. I submitted my shot of the vase & the seller agreed he had got it wrong & re-funded my money & said keep the vase. I've shown both images here, mine is the correct one alongside the Portugese chimney, can you improve mine.

In answer to your question then, I'm guessing that yours is the 'correct' one...

But if they are indeed the same vase, it raises the issue of digital capture and how white balance, lighting and nearby colours can influence what the camera captures.

Fully agree with you there Paul. Limited as I am in the use of PS - the only advice I can offer on improving your vase Eric is to stick some flowers in it maybe

Hi Paul
Afraid it might fall over it's only 6 inches high, known as a bud vase. Added pictures of a couple more bought on Ebay, not my pictures, one with flower.

I've edited your thread title (I hope you don't mind).

The idea behind "Edit My Image" really was to get more people involved in the forum and to help people who might be struggling with things like post-processing, contrast, cropping, exposure, etc. It might help them when it comes to preparing images for competitions.

I don't think there's much editing to be done on an Ebay shot. In fact as a straight record of the item for sale you wouldn't want to do much editing to it.

Your thread did raise an interesting question about colours and white balance though. They say the camera never lies, but how do we know that the colours we see are accurate?

Hmmm, I thought I'd have a play...

Eric - your shot could be improved with five seconds in Levels.

The Ebay shot was due to an incorrect white balance. Resetting the grey point (in Levels) brings out more of the green, but it's a crappy shot anyway. A case for having someone who knows what they're doing take one's Ebay shots.
