Pet Shop Boys and other Musicians
I was just chatting with Philip Howe and it turns out we are both huge fans of Pet Shop Boys.
I went seeing them at the MEN Arena last Thursday night and Philip almost had opportunities to photograph and interview them (I'm showing my jealousy).
If there's any other 'Petheads' out there check out my latest blog - http://www.pauljones.org/?p=605
We know that John is a big Frankie Valli fan, so it got me thinking of a thread topic...
Which singer or band would you most like to photograph?
I'm obviously going to say I'd love to photograph Pet Shop Boys. The best I got were cameraphone pics...

Re: Pet Shop Boys and other Musicians
I've already photographed Frankie Valli, so I think I'd like a go at Paloma Faith. She's a colourful personality and a colourful subject! I have shot a few from the audience, but didn't have the right camera for the job:
Best regards
John

It'd have to be Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction for me. This is a shot I took on a compact a couple of years before I took up photography as a hobby, I've love to have a proper go now. Also, Adam Ant would be great. And the Human League for a portrait shoot. And Siobhan Fahey. And... ad infinitum...

Re: Pet Shop Boys and other Musicians
The person i most enjoyed photographing is Melanie Pain from Nouvelle Vague (well worth a listen):
I don't really know who I would like to photograph most, maybe Red Hot Chilli Peppers, or Sarah Cracknel from St Etienne would be nice ( do I actually need to mention Kylie, or could you just guess that one?). The only musician I constantly apply for a pass and have never managed though, is Johnny Marr. Check out photos of him, like this one by Kevin Cummins:
My favourite photos of the Pet Shop Boys are all by Eric Watson:

Re: Pet Shop Boys and other Musicians
Some interesting names and images coming forward. I must confess to not having heard of Zodiac Mindwarp or Nouvelle Vague before.
I agree with you, Philip, about Eric watson. For me the 'Suburbia' shot of Chris Lowe is an iconic pop image.
I'm sure you already know that Johnny Marr has collaborated extensively with Pet Shop Boys - http://www.geowayne.com/newDesign/lists/marr.htm

David Bowie, Led Zeppelin and the Late Jimi Hendrix are the ones that I would have liked to photograph.
Never mind it will not happen so i`ll just settle for there music.
Take Care All.

Re: Pet Shop Boys and other Musicians
Blimey - that's a question, which musician would I like to photograph? - the answer to that would be any that would stand still for long enough for me to get a half decent picture in the poor light the venues supply, especially when you're stood a million miles from the stage
If I were privileged enough to stand a few feet away and I was allowed to take in my DSLR then I think it's got to be AC/DC as my top band, but there are so many other's that I would like to have a go at: Journey, Foreigner, Nazareth, Bob Segar, Neil Young, blimey the list is endless.
I always take my compact to concerts and the pictures always turn out rubbish The best picture I managed to get was from a Kiss concert a couple of years ago, the Lead Singer Paul Stanley appeared on a smaller stage in the middle of the MEN and was lit up fairly well, luckily he didn't move around too much, probably because he was stood on stilts, I was quite pleased with the image.....

Good shot Tracey! Didn't know you had such good taste in music!
Agree with a lot of people's choices on this thread. I think my personal choice (although I can't do portraits) would be, Bowie, Alice Cooper, Bob Dylan (60s not now!!) and probably the Stones, at least Mick Jagger and Keith Richards (that's Richards not Richardson ).

Some great choices but Rammstein would have to be my band or Slipknot (I'd wear ear protectors).
Think they are both very individually visual bands.
Shaun.

Slipknot would be good, definitely. There was an exhibition in Manchester last year of photos of Slipknot, but I never made it along unfortunately.

Re: Pet Shop Boys and other Musicians
Well, I've been given a press and photo pass for New Order and Johnny Marr at Jodrell Bank today, so, hopefully, I'll get a big tick on my bucket list today.

No, none spare unfortunately. I actually managed a photo of my two musical heroes in a single shot as they performed a song together.
