The L&CPU website has changed servers again and the forum there is down at the moment.
I'm not so sure all this change is wise. We changed to this forum style to facilitate (good word!) posting of links and images and to give a more widely recognised format to the forum. We don't plan to do it again unless we have to for some reason.
On the other hand, we were only offline for an hour or so whilst the change was made, but the L&CPU one seems to be off for days every time. And just as the style is settling down and people are starting to talk, it's off to another server yet again.
It seems a terrible shame to spoil the progress being made, but hopefully this time will be the last for a very long time...

Re: More L&CPU Web Changes
Personally I think that phpBB is one of the best pieces of forum software out there. And it is free! vBulletin is also not too bad but I think you now have to pay for it! The only downside of this type of forum is that you have to administer it yourself (ie technically not set up of software) and you can have some problems. I think we all remember when some vandals took us down for a day or two which was embarrassing. The other point is you have to have a web hosting package that will allow you to host the database. . . .
In fact they are not really downsides. . .

You make is sound frivolous. . . it was an upgrade to the newest version of the software that stopped spam and improved security too. It was much more than a style changeJohn wrote:We changed to this forum style ...

Re: More L&CPU Web Changes
The point I was making was that we changed to this forum type for sound reasons and to make improvements. The L&CPU change was in contrast a pity because it had already happened before, started again and now has to start again for the third time. I would have suggested to them that phpBB3 was the way to go, but they haven't taken that route and it is taking a long time. I think at our changeover we were only offline for about 1 hour.
So certainly no suggestion of it being frivolous from here!

The L&CPU Forum is now starting to become active, bit by bit.
If anyone wants to register over there then it's at http://www.lcpu.org.uk If you have registered there before, then you will need to register there again.
