On Thursday the subject will be Basic Photography Technique. In the past I've approached this a few different ways and this time will be different again. I'm going to cover the basics of Shutter Speed, Aperture and ISO but will try to relate them to the practical world where we are using them to express something in our photography. Without understanding the basics we might capture some effect by accident, but suppose instead we do understand and know how to apply the camera settings to make the statement we want.
A simple example is that someone might look at a portrait and think what a great effect having the background all out of focus. We know that a wide aperture will do this, so we pre-visualise what we want and set the aperture accordingly. Simple perhaps, but with a bit of understanding we can get off that Program Mode and make it happen as we want every time.
So let's look at things like that, let's have fun describing what Hyperfocal Distance is, and let's have lots of interaction. I'm looking forward to it and I hope you are too.

Looking forward to the evening John. Revisiting the basics sometimes enables me to pick up on small points that I have forgotten! Should be a very useful night.

A brilliant night John - I learned a few things, and was reminded of a few things that I've forgotten! I'm sure it helped a few beginners too!
