FORUM COMPETITION #142 NATURE IN ABSTRACT
Hi All
Instead of the conventional way of taking a nature image, I'm thinking outside the box a bit here. A nature image with an abstract feel to it, the subject can be anything from an animal, flower, fauna, trees etc - can be colour or mono. For some inspiration, visit this website: http://digital-photography-school.com/c ... in-nature/
Closing date is midnight: Sunday 15th February.
Good luck everyone.

Not sure if this fits the brief? Taken on Crosby beach at sunset.

Cactus at Harrogate spring flower show. This image is minimally cropped from camera to improve the centring of the pattern.

From a couple of years ago - slightly colourised, hope that's acceptable.

Re: FORUM COMPETITION #142 NATURE IN ABSTRACT
Hi All
Thank you to everyone who entered this months competition. Here are the results:
In the Pink - Janice. This fits the brief well, I like the position of the centre of the flower being on the third and the contrast between the pink and yellow, it's just a pity the yellow bits are not as sharp as they could have been, it looks a bit soft.
Crosby Beach - Mrs Yachtsman1. Although a good sunset picture with a good recession of topics, it doesn't really fit the brief, the only natural things in this image are the sand and the sea, everything else is manmade - sorry.
Bulls Eyes - Yachtman1. This fits the brief more, although the eye is too central and the lashes obstruct the actual eye which is a shame, I also find the checked ribbon and rope are too dominant and this detracts from me wanting to focus on the animal.
Cactus - Gordon Armstrong. This really fits the bill well with lots of abstract going on from the spikes to the sections of the cactus to the top of the cactus being in the centre. The white of the thorns contrast well against the dark green of the flesh.
Orchid - BydoR9. This is a lovely soothing image, pastel shades and subtle contours with the bright yellow and pink demanding your attention. Lovely image.
Spirits of the Woods - John. This is really eye catching and an abstract of nature I would not have thought of doing myself. I was thinking more along the lines of natures natural abstract, but typically of John, you have thought outside the box and come up with a striking image which keeps the interest there and seeing different things each time you look at it.
Tree Slice Abstract - Ian Yarwood. Another good example of natures abstract, lovely warm colours and shapes within the tree trunk.
Now for the scoring:
3rd - Orchid (BydoR9)
2nd - Cactus (Gordon Armstrong)
1st - Spirits of the Wood (John Riley)
Over to you now John.
