Re: #181 - RED
Hey, there are some good entries here, all fitting the bill perfectly, thank you to everyone who entered.
Blackbird in Red Rowan (BydroR9) - I like how the blackbird is framed by the red berries and the pale blue sky behind forming a contrasting background, the faint outline of branches behind setting the scene without detracting from the main subject, a really nice image.
Hidden Secrets (John) - Red certainly "suits you sir", very brave chap to wear red pearls with red tartan . A very interesting image which I keep going back to as I see different things each time. There is good eye contact but the chopping off of the goggles and the pendant around his neck bothers me a bit.
Wild Horses (johnjm) - Yep, definitely fits the brief of "red", I can see that its part of a car but have no idea which car, it looks vintage, its just a shame that you have clipped the light on the very edge which to me is the main focal point of this image.
Queen of Hearts (Jojo) - An interesting shot, tells a story. Quite a strong light on the left throwing the right hand side of the girl into complete blackness. The red of the card and her hair are the only real colours in this image so fits the bill there. I wonder if the inclusion of her left eye looking out from under the brim of the hat would have strengthened it. The more a look at this image the more I want to see her eye.
Red Hot Chilli (Janice) - Very cleverly done, I've no idea how you do this, but it fits the bill of red. The chilli looks stood at a funny angle but I'm wondering how this could be improved.
Red (Mike) - The red berries and orangy red leaves stand out well against the green background, a slight vignette helps to hold your focus on the main subject of the berries. I find the blurred branch in the background on the right a bit distracting through.
Tomatoes (Gordon) - A technically good image, everything that needs to be sharp is sharp, I like the inclusion of the ivy around the bowl to break up the sharp edges and create a natural frame. I like that you have different shapes and shades of red vegetables in the bowl. I think I might have cloned out the white scuffs on the red pepper though, I'm finding them a bit distracting, but otherwise a fine image.
Post Box (Graham) - I like seeing these old letter boxes and stamp dispensers, although no longer in use. I think they keep the traditions alive from the olden days and are far more interesting to look at than the modern letter boxes. A good record shot this and certainly fits the red theme.

Yes , a good subject, and once again some great images along with helpful comments from Tracy, our judge. Great winning image - never seen so many different tomatoes all at once!

Thanks for your comments Tracey. I too would like to her eyes....I'll have to bribe my daughter into a reshoot I've since had a play about on Snapped and lightened the image which I prefer as you can see more of the hat
Good choice of winner too.
