I recently went to New York for a few days with my Nikon DSLR in tow plus 3 lenses and a tripod etc. I lugged this gear all over Manhattan and Brooklyn only to find that I took most of my snaps with my Galaxy S7!
Although they may not be considered good enough to be entered into a competition (perhaps the museum one is) I feel that using my mobile helped me capture the atmosphere and immediacy of the city perhaps better than if I fumbled around for my Nikon - also my phone is water-proof which really helped!!
There's no arguing with the quality of either the photography or the kit used. Whether it would have been technically better using a high class compact camera I don't know, but that might have matched the immediacy of the style. The priniciple is the same, less is more, and having less kit to lug about means we can feel unfettered by the drag of it.
Looks like you had a pretty terrific time and you've been doing well on EPZ with it.
Many thanks John! Yeah, had a great time thanks - would love to go back, but it's sooooo expensive (and tiring)!
Love your quote, 'and having less kit to lug about means we can feel unfettered by the drag of it' - but I still dragged mine around anyway!! What a fool I am!
The only shot I've processed so far from my 'propper' camera is the wooden post's long exposure, which got an Editor's Choice on EPZ - really pleased with that - even if I did mess up the ISO (under extreme weather conditions I might add).
Really enjoyed looking through those Andy... Believe me I dont usually troll people's holiday snaps. No 4 was my favourite. Mainly because America just wouldn't be America without Coke to me... So well done. On another note in the rock legends shot. Can anyone name the person on the left ? It's bugging me... lol
