Model attire (just out interest)

Another one of my random questions

When the more experienced among you work in the studio, do you decide on the model's clothing/costume (or lack of in the case of glamour ) or do they provide their own selection.

Both. Sometimes the model will provide lots of alternative clothes, sometimes the photographer will have something for him/her to wear.

In any event photographers will usually have lots of props that can be added to an image - hats, scarves, swords.....

I'll occasionally buy specific items for a shoot. The last things I bought were some pairs of sunglasses.

Usually I'll send the model a 'wishlist' of what I want her to supply from her own wardrobe, which may include:

- Lingerie, including matching sets, basques, teddies, stockings, hold-ups, etc.
- Shoes, boots, patent leather, high heels, etc
- Casual, including vests, t-shirts, crop tops, shorts, jeans, etc.
- Formal, for example black dress, business attire, etc.

If it's a shoot involving a bedroom, perhaps in her home, I will ask that they have plain white / cream bedding available.

Just to add what everyone else said, a bit of both. On a model shoot, I ask the model what they will be bringing and always tell them to bring too much. Sometimes they turn up with two bags, sometimes a suitcase.

If I do a lingerie shoot at my studio, i just ask them to tip their whole top drawer into a bag and bring it with them.

The biggest thing i don't like to hear is 'aww, I've got one at home, i should have brought it' - yes, you should have.

A model wanted black and white shots, so only brought black and white clothes (reds and blues are better for black and white photos).

Now, where did I put my waders.....
