On Saturday night, my wife and I babysat our grandson Alfie so that our daughter and son-in-law could have a night out in town. Wish we hadn't now, because the son-in-law got really badly beaten up by a gang of three idiots. He was knocked unconcious and his head hit the ground hard, resulting in huge swellings. They also broke his jaw!!
Yesterday the doctors wired his teeth together to stop any movement in his jaw and today they operate on him to attach plates to the bones. Looks like he's spending Xmas in hospital. Luckily, nobody hit my daughter or I'd be serving a prison sentence right now
What a horrid thing to happen at Christmas. At least he survived and will be on the mend post op! Best wishes to the family Tom, hope your son-in-law feels better soon.
Tom,
Sorry to hear about your son-in-law and hope he is soon feeling better, my wife and myself have been to many countries and have just returned from India,we have never felt any intimidation or had any problems anywhere we have been, in India we where out late evenings and only met people wanting polite conversation no drunks etc, this country I am sorry to say is in a sad state with drunks and yob culture,
people ask us wether we feel safe in these other countries, we certainly don't feel safe in the UK and Bolton at weekends seems to be a nogo town.
Best wishes to your family,
Bert.
I know how you feel Tom, I very rarely venture out to wigan town centre but as is customary at this time of year, the works party was organised and its like the wild west i have to tell you.
You certainly don't feel safe and at any moment a drink/drug fuelled fight can flare up causing no amount of damage which lets be honest the thugs who do it don't give a s**t about the outcome.
Its about time this country started to follow up any criminal activity with a punishment and not a trip to a holiday camp or by being given an asbo as is the norm these days. Maybe people will think twice about what they are about to do if they know that the punishment will have severe effects on their lives and their families.
I know when i drink i just want a good time and then off to bed
Hope that he is on the mend soon as, we are all thinking about all of you at this time and that the culprits are brought to justice.

Hi Tom
What a terrible thing to happen to your family especially at this time of year. I hope your son-in-law starts to feel better soon, it's not just the physical trauma it can affect people psycologically as well, you can only imagin what he and our daughter must be going through.
My very best of wishes to you and your family.
Take Care
Tracey
Thanks everyone! Son-in-law came home after his op and is in a great deal of pain still, but there's little they can do about that - he's just gonna have to cope with it for a few weeks. Luckily, there was someone there to make things better - his son...
