Mevagissey

Post by John »

We're just back from a week's holiday based in Mevagissey, a small fishing port on the south Cornwall coast, near St Austell.

A good area for exploration and photography, but as always it's the details that make the shots. Small corners of places like The Eden Project are photographically rewarding, but not so much the overall shots which are just too well known to be interesting.

Mevagissey harbour at night made for some interesting images. When we're awake again I'll see about posting one or two.

As it is, we were up at 3am Saturday morning, left Mevagissey at 4am, arrived in Leigh at 10:10am. Then on to a 30th Wedding Anniversary celebration Saturday night in Liverpool and finally to bed at 1am this morning. 22 hours. Interesting. I have found time for two pictures to be up on EPZ...
Best regards

Stayed at St Austell once, great area for any type of photographs.
Is the country road into Mevagissey still as scary as it was? The end is worth the risk but definitely not for the nervous driver, especially at night.
Keith.

The road is quite a decent road these days, so there has probably been a widening scheme at some point.

My 1938 guide book (!) told me that the locals had their meals cooked for them at the local bakehouse, there was no mains water but they had the first electricity supply in Cornwall.

Things may have moved along a little. Here's an image of the harbour at night:

Great image john lots of detail.
Country roads are great not only do you get to throw the car around abit
(within the speed limit of course) they usually lead to some very hidden interesting places.
