Thanks for posting more images, Andy. I hope others will follow.

Well, no-one's commented so far, so I'll take the plunge......

I'm sorry, I know it's not what you want to hear, but if you want my complete honesty, these don't do a great deal for me. Sorry...

Positives:

= Even lighting - which some might say is a little flat, but works OK in my opinion.
= Nice skin tones and processing.
= Shows potential to produce more outstanding work.
= Fourth image - nice bum.


Negatives:

= I don't think they're either 'fashion' or 'glamour'. They're kind of a half-way house.
= I think the first two images are let down by the glimpse of her white knickers. Why?
= The poses look a little awkward. Was it her first time modelling? She has that 'inexperienced' look.
= Similar facial expression in all four shots. Again, possible model inexperience.
= Third image. The chair as a prop. Why? To me it just looks out of place. I've sat in on group shoots in the past where someone always suggests using a chair (or a hat, pair of gloves, cigarette holder, whicker chair, etc) and the result is often this type of shot.


Sorry..... Please keep posting images and don't be put off by me. I'd possibly make a rubbish judge.

Thanks for taking the time to comment paul. personally I consider any feedback as positive, as there is always something I can gain fom it.

Now you have said it, and made me aware of it, I have to agree with you on - "don't think they're either 'fashion' or 'glamour'. They're kind of a half-way house". I havnt thought about what sort of images I am trying to achieve, I have just been happy with images that look good to me. Maybe a thought for future shoots is that I should set myself a theme.

As for the pose's ,I thought natalie, the model in question was one of the most professional models I have had the fortune of photographing to date. She was energetic and full of idea's. I think its maybe my portrail of her that doesnt do her justice. The 2 clothed images are the same shot , just cropped differently. This is another good learning point, in that I need to select my images more thoroughly.

As for the 'chair', that was my idea maybe I need to go back to the drawing board.

Hi Andy,

Had a quick look at these yesterday, but they didn't do anything for me, if that makes sense, I agree with what Paul has said, their doesn't seem to be much life in the models face. She doesn't have to smile, but she has a kind of bland look and the lighting though even is a little flat.

I find it much easier to critique other peoples shots than my own. When i go back after a year or so I've become more detached from them and then I struggle to find one thats worthy of competition etc as I find so many faults.

I've had a quick play with levels/saturation and the magic wand with two of them to different degrees to give a more high key effect.

My feeling is that the problem is in the poses. They seem a bit artificial and strained and the model looks detached from the proceedings. The white background doesn't help.

I'd take the previous advice and see what a more focused approach could achieve.

By the way, this is all just MY opinion. Others will have different ones.

Everyone is entitled to there own opinion and has there own personal preferences/tastes.

I hope others will jump in with some comments.....

I like this set much better - the lighting and the mood. I take it the model's "amyebain" (Purestorm / Arc)?

In the first photo one thing that caught my eye was the two bits of fingers on top of her head. I was thinking it might look tidier if you cloned those out so that it gives the appearance of her hand going behind the head. The fingers stick out a bit, for me. Just a minor point...

In the 3rd photo the hands on top of the head works better because you're seeing more of the hands and the pose looks more deliberate.

2nd photo - I like her facial expression better on this photo. You say you think her back could be more prominent. You're probably right, but it's a personal choice and depends on what you're going for.

If you wanted to shoot her from the side (as you have done) you can ask her to bend her arm/elbow back a touch to form an arch/window through which to see more of her back.

You move her arm out more so the camera sees through to the shape of her back. It's a classic posing tip.

Alternatively, if you had wanted to, if you asked her to move around a bit more, you could have got more of her back and bum in the shot (watch out for labels in lingerie though - ask her to remove them).


I hope this has helped a little. It's good to see you progressing and striving to improve.

Recently photographed a more experienced model. Once again thought I would share some of the images.
Finding time a precious commodity at the moment so only had chance to process 2 images.

The thing I would suggest is that you watch out for armpits and creases, the former not being the prettiest part of the human body.

The eyes hold the key to a powerful portrait and if the eyes captivaye you then it will be a great portrait. My Great Aunt had a painiting from Victorian times, and the eyes followed you around the room. However it was done, that was a great portrait.
