Lens reversers ...

Any one have any experience of these little dears ? any one advise it they are worth getting one or would you go with extention tubes ?

I know your all gonna say "get a dedicated macro lens" but atm I haven't got the money and not sure I wanna go into full time macro photography

Any advice (even if it is just "avoid like the plague") would be appreciated ...

Now if one of you very nice people has the above mentioned items with Nikon mounts and would be kind enuff to let me have a go I will be extremely greatful

Try reversing a 28mm lens onto the front of a 135mm....

Any lens reversed will give big magnification, but the 28mm ones tend to behave best IIRC.

I bought some cheap extension tubes off a well known auction website. I'm not the biggest fan of macro photography, so went down this route as a 'just in case'. They are rubbish and too fiddly. Unfortunately, they are Canon mount, or I'd have brought them in for you.

The main problem with them being cheap is that you get small pieces breaking off the thread when you attach your lens, and you don't want that on your sensor.

Whatever you decide to get, , reversers or extension tubes etc you will need a good quality glass Lens to use with them which will cost big bucks, the attached image was taken with a NIKON D200, Nikon 300mm f4, nikon pn11 extension tube,1/5 sec at F11 ISO 100.
If you look at the macro images on my link to Ephotozine some of those where taken using KENKO extension tubes which are a lot cheaper than NIKON.
