I think I prefer this shot to the others posted. The location certainly had possibilities.

Perhaps it might have worked better if the girl was looking away rather than full-on at the camera. Eye contact isn't always necessary in a photo.

Yes I think I prefer this out of the 2 posted. I will bear your comments in mind and try with and without eye contact on future shoots. Thank you.

I have a big problem with eye contact. I did a shoot a couple of weeks ago where I asked the model to do the sequence of shoots (I always take full length, 3/4 and head shot) and for the 4th to look right down the camera and into my eye.

On all but one sequence, the straight at the lens shot was the best. I think the problem comes when you try to get some variety, in which case - look left, look right, look down, look down the lens is a formula I found best, so although looking straight down the lens looked best, I just couldn't have them all doing that.

I can see that you had to use on camera flash. If you want, I'll let you have a go of my off camera cable (£20) which makes such a different. I then put my flash on a tripod at around £45 and it makes such a difference.

I agree with the 'fashion' label. It has to be called something. I think portrait is where it's about the person, but this isn't, it's a photo of a model and I think it is a good one. I have a problem with what she is wearing, but I didn't do the remit!

I think I'd have cropped it a bit closer. I'm only guessing but I think she's very petite, filling the frame a bit more may make the photo more about her. It is very difficult on a group shot to get anything you'd like to show as you always feel under pressure that you have to take the shot and then go to the back of the queue.

Summary: I'd like to see a tighter crop, but still full or at least 3/4 length. I like the eyes. As for pose, I'd quite have liked to see a model pose, legs slightly apart, right hand on waist and slightly seperated from the background.

I prefer looking away from the lens shots personally, but it is difficult to know when to use into the camera for effect; maybe if you got a bit closer up on her face it would have worked better; the pipework seems a little blown out too but that could just be the in camera flash; I think we could all do with some model shoot tips maybe someone could come in and give us a practical demonstration

Yes Ian I agree a demo would be so helpful. Who is going to offer their expertise then?
