JUDGE NOT THAT YE ..........

Having been persuaded by the lovely Mrs Blower ( she is bigger than me ) to be one of the judges in last night's Ladies only competition it was a pleasure to see so many
good images and my eyes have been opened as to what judges in the L&CPU have to go through when they judge up to 3000 pictures in one day.
It was only when John went through the images at a more sedate pace that I could appreciate them a little better and would, possibly, have scored them
differently. It appears to me that to get the attention of three judges who only have 4 or 5 seconds to look at them, my pictures have to have the 'WOW' factor
to stand out from the others. May not be the case in the Annual prints where the judge can take a bit longer to look at them.
Perhaps John or Keith could advise on the subject.
Anyway. A good night thank you Ladies. You can get your own back on us letter mortals when we have a Men's night.

Good comment Mike. Wow factor and point of interest of focal point are something I need to think about more. One learns so much from these events.

Well done to Tracey for her win last night - it was a great shot.

Mike, you did need a bit of persuasion to be a judge but all three of you did a fantastic job and I hope you enjoyed it.

The ladies who entered for the first time were very brave to do so, it can be daunting. I would apologise to Gwen as I understand I put her hubbies name in the competition sorry x

As a judge I enjoyed the experiense very much, and was pleased to be asked. As Mike said. Its difficult to judge a picture in an instant. So you tend to make a knee jerk reaction. Like Mike when I saw the images the second time around. I would have scored one or to differently.

But all that said. What a fantastic set of pictures. A pleasure to view. I know I found it difficult to pick the winner. So well done Tracey. A picture, I certainly wish I could of matched. The Lady members are certainly getting stronger as a group. The guys had better watch out. Theres real competition, going on here...

Firstly thank you to Mike Stu and David for 'volunteering' to be judges. It looks like you enjoyed the experience overall.
Perhaps more time could have been allocated to look at each picture and possibly next time we could run through the slide show twice before judging, or leave them on screen for longer, during the slide show.
Another aspect of being a judge, as I am sure you noticed, is that you can feel rushed when the other two have cast their vote, and the adjudicator (in this case John) can't tell whether you are just taking your time or whether your keypad just hasn't registered your vote. This can probably make it feel like you are being rushed at times, when it was not intended to make you feel that way.

Overall I think the test run with the new software was very successful and probably quite an eye opener for anyone who hasn't seen these in action before. Using this system has allowed us to have far more entries in the Annual digital competition this year, when three members of Wigan PS will be sat in the hot seats at the front. They will be asked to do this six times, with many more images to look at.
At the Annuals though the judges will more usually only speak about the winning and commended entries.

Sorry Janice but the score sheet is set into the DiCentra system, and so far I have not found any alternative way of showing it, or changing the parameters. I will see if there is an alternative way to do it before next time.
