My humble entry, taken a few years ago on Ainsdale beach. A shell trapped in ice.

Re: Forum Competition #106 - COLD
Hi All
Sorry for the delay with this, been packing for my trip to Scotland, hope the weather turns out better than the weather in your images....
Right, on to the judging:
Yachtsman
I like the sky in this mono image, the cloud detail is great, very dramatic against the rolling hills and countryside, you can just about make out the bits of snow on the hills in the background. I'm not too keen on the wooden post and wires in the foreground, they are taking my eye away from the lovely landscape.
StuB
The two jettys form good leading lines into the image, drawing the eyes to the snow capped mountains across the lake. The cool colours enhance the feeling of cold. The image is nicely exposed although some detail under the jettys are lost in the darkness.
Bazzasmeg
Yes, this fits the brief of 'cold', lots of snow covering everything, looks like Pendle Hill in the background. The lighting is also good, coming in from the right, looks like the sun is setting.
GerryG
Brrrrrrrrr - yes, this definitely fits the brief. A nicely composed image with the 2 people and flying ducks coming towards you. The lake is covered in ice and that blizzard is great, don't think I would be brave enough to take pictures out on a day like that.
Janice F
Another great shot that fits the brief. The lake or river has definitely iced over with branches stuck in the ice. I like how the frozen water curves round to lead your eye right into the image.
John Harwood
A letter box image of a setting sun at the end of a frosty day and despite the warm colours in the sky, you can see it had been a cold day with lots of ice and snow covering the land and buildings. There appears to be a halo around the buildings though which I find a little distracting, but I do like the composition and colours.
John
A simple image, almost abstract with hardly any colour at all. Another image which definitely fits the brief.
Ian Yarwood
I close up image of ice formations showing the different shape and textures the ice makes. I know the shell is meant to be a feature but unfortunately I find it a little distracting and would probably have preferred the image without it, sorry.
Now for the results...........
3rd Place - John Harwood
2nd Place - Stu B
1st Place - Gerry G
Over to you now Gerry for the next subject.
