Hi

The bird pic is really to find out if anyone knows what it is?

Re: Pennington Practice
I can enjoy the warmth of those shots. There are compositional points that could be made, such as keeping the tail in the picture in image 1 and avoiding barriers such as fences crossing an image, but these things will evolve with time. The images are very well arranged. That glow on the bird's chest is wonderful.
Best regards
John

It's really good to see you and our other new members posting images for comments.
I agree with what John's points. The light is lovely on the bird and you've blurred the background distractions to bring attention onto the bird.
Some questions to get you thinking...
Bird
It doesn't seem as sharp as it could be on this monitor. Why do you think that is? Low shutter speed? Camera shake?
What were you focusing on?
Did you notice that you had chopped his tail off when you were composing the shot?
What could you do better next time?
Sunset
I like a nice sunset. You've got good colours and tones.
Could the shot have been improved if you had walked forward or sideways to remove the benches and fence?
Keep up the good work!
Paul

Hi
Try checking out Muscovy Duck on the internet - think it might be that!
I agree with Paul about the compositon of the bird shot. Its surprising but when you look the viewfinder sometimes you dont realise you've chopped bits off until you process the image. Nicely diffused background, no distractions and good overall lighting.
Your 2nd shot is my favourite with the lovely warm tones and the composition is better. I actually dont mind the benches in the foreground as the light has just caught them - I dont think a judge would agree though!
Keep trying and just have fun with it!

It is really interesting to see what other members are doing, and the resulting comments help not only the author, but those of us who still have a lot to learn.
Nice one.
