Thursday 27th February Keith Barbers Photographic Safari

Post by Gill Blower »

Keith's talk covers a photographic trip to Kenya on a Safari visiting Buffalo Springs/Samburu game reserves, a Samburu village, the Mount Kenya mountain lodge, Lakes Navaisha and Lake Nakuru, before finishing off in the wonderful Masai Mara game reserve.

Covering the journey from Nairobi to the various destinations It begins with a map of the journey then a brief overview of the U.K's. colonial link with Kenya and some demographic details. Through his images Keith describes the journey, the animals he encountered, and just as importantly, the people, their lifestyle and customs etc.

The main focus of such a trip though has to be the animals, and through his images and some information he provides about them, Keith endeavours to relay the wonder and awe of seeing so many fascinating species and creatures in their natural environment. "It is one thing to view such creatures on T.V. or in a Zoo but an entirely different thing to see and photographic them in their natural habitat, where for many of them life is a continuous and dangerous struggle." It is no exaggeration to say that it was a trip of a lifetime, so much so Keith had to repeat it again in September of this year.

During the talk he will also relate to the equipment and techniques used to capture the images.

Not to be missed :-d
