Bringing toys to your table???

Post by cameraclix »

Dear All...I'm just about to join your club! So, maybe I'd better start sharing some of my "secrets" with you. (To people in "the know" they won't be very secret, sorry!)

I've viewed a few message threads here about the price of Epson printer paper.

I haven't used epson paper for a long time!

My pigment-based inkjet system uses the Epson Stylus Pro 2100, fed via a Lyson continuous inking system. I used to use a Permajet CIS and their paper. I still occasionally use their "oyster" paper which has a nice soft lustre but I think a batch of their ink bunged up the print head in my first Epson 2100. I had been warned that they buy their inks in bulk from cheaper suppliers and have limited quality assurance between batches but since changing to the more expensive lyson inks, supplied by Marrutt, I've had no problems.

The paper I use is Calumet's own brand cheapy-cheap paper "Brilliant" and apart from being cheap, (£19 for 50 sheets of A4) it's actually VERY good. They do a semi-gloss that actually prints virtually real gloss on the 2100 (inkjets don't do gloss well) and a lustre paper that I use lots of. I buy their A4 and A3 papers. I buy A3+ paper from the FujiHunt Professional range, also via Calumet. Follow this link: http://www.calumetphoto.co.uk/Computers ... ter+Paper/

I still have my first Epson Stylus Pro 2100, all boxed up...if anybody wants to play at cleaning the print head or replacing it...it's a freebie, just get in touch...first come/first served. I think I still have the attachments to allow you to print off roll paper (hard to get in this width) and to print to the face of CD's, DVD's. It's just taking up room in my office. I always meant to flog it on Ebay but didn't get round tuit. If you want it, come and get it!

I used to have an Epson Stylus 9600 (A2) printer which was nice but mega expensive when changing the 250ml ink cartridges and I also have a HiTi dye sublimination printer that I use to produce instant prints at events (I used to be the tog for a motorcross club)...

I also have a fancy G5 AppleMac...with some mega expensive software plugged into photoshop on it (oh and a Canon 1Ds...whilst we're talking mega pricey bits of kit!)

..As with all the above, if I'm becoming a member...if anybody would like to come & play with any of my gear just get in touch and we'll arrange a suitable time to get together.

Kind Regards

John Lyons
