Mornin' all ...

Post by Ron Clark »

I suppose I should introduce myself on here too. Jan and I joined ADAPS pretty soon after moving up here from North Warwickshire in May. Now all we need to do is to remember that club night is THURSDAY and not Monday as it is at the Nuneaton Club. I must say that the welcome we've received has been very good indeed and I'd like to thank you all for that.

As for our photography, well, that can be hard to describe. Jan and I are both disabled to some extent (although you wouldn't think it looking at us), and that limits us to what we can do and how far we can walk to get shots. However, we do manage. Jan likes to do macro work and her favorite subject is moths. Her main camera is a Fuji Film S100fs. For me, it's pretty much anything that I can get an image of but I do like candid shots so I've attached a couple for you to look at. The top one was taken on my new Sony Alpha 350 and 18-70mm lens, a dream of camera and so easy to use. I also have a 50-200 Tamron lens for it too. The other two were taken on my old Konica Minolta Z5 bridge camera - a nice little camera but fairly limited. I also have a Nikon Coolpix 5100 which I usually have in my pocket - just in case - but it was bought as part of a digi-scoping kit from RSPB Martin Mere.

I had the idea while living in Nuneaton and Bedworth to go around and photograph all the churches in the area but I never got the chance to do so so now I shall have to make the effort to go back down there to do it ... ah well. One of our regular trips out while we were do there was to a place called Coombe Abbey Country Park and we would drive past a pub called the the Ansty Arms. There was a really nice pub sign outside and again it was something I wanted to get an shot of but kept forgetting to do so. Then the one time I was certain I was going to do so, they had changed the name and the sign ... ah well again! SO now I take photos of a lot of pub signs. Originally I was just going to do the ones with a 'coat of arms' on them but eventually I started to do all the others too. So now I have two projects on the go, pub signs and churches.

I may have another too. A few weeks ago I sent an email to Photography Monthly suggesting that they should publish articles for disabled photographers. The result was that they say they have to cater for the bulk of their readers but did suggested that I might have a go at filling the 'glaring gap' as I put it. Another email is on it's way to them to them asking how much they are willing to pay for it ... then we'll see.

Seeyez all next week then

Ron

Hi Ron and thanks for your message.

I'm glad that you're both enjoying ADAPS. Feel free to let the Committee know if you need any help with anything.

It's good to have a project or two to keep your interest in.

Best regards

Paul

I have also got an Alpha 350, it was my birthday present off my wife. I have not been out with it yet taking photos. Still studying the manual. I have the same sony lens 18-70 plus the sony 75 - 300. I am really looking forward to getting out and putting the camera through it's paces.

Nice introduction and welcome to ADAPS. I hope that the Churches and Pub Signs projects are going well. It sounds like fun :-d.
