If I can offer a comment or three John ... I like the way you have photographed the squirrel in its habitat, but I would be tempted to crop a little (1/4 - 1/3) off the trunk on the left to make it less dominant and clone out that dark spot in the light part of the background to the right of the squ...

The Manfrotto 057 Carbon Fibre Tripod 4 Section will certainly give you the height you want and more and with change for a coffee out of £700 legs only, but the better option maybe the Giotto YTL 9213 at a more modest £130 legs only ... or the stalwart Manfrotto 055. Difficult to say Janice. It would all depend on the elements in the scene and how I want to portray them. Sky lines in landscapes are similar, the perceived wisdom on that is not to break the sky line, something a bit difficult with a seascape without say in Mike's image, it looking like it's going ...

Following on from your bananas post ... what about collapsible reflectors or if you have a flashgun, some light modifiers? And if you go to the craft shop for gold card ... check out the foam sheets in black and white to use as DIY modifiers (with a bit of imagination) ...
